An obsession with the the American cowboy as portrayed in countless westerns attracts members of both sexes to a club in the outer suburbs of Auckland. Dressing up in western garb, complete with holsters and guns, is a weekly form of escapism for club members whose occupations range from truck-drivers and wharf labourers to accountants. The Western Districts' Fast Draw Club puts on public shows which contain well-known gunfights from the history of the American west. Living out their fantasies is serious fun for these cowboys.
The Fastest Gun Down Under combines documentary footage of club activities with a mock-serious western starring club members.
